This whole-home renovation on Equine Road in the Bonnet subdivision of Leander, TX started before the homeowner even moved in. We removed the builder-grade 12x12 tile in the kitchen, breakfast area, laundry room, and foyer, along with the carpet in the study, dining room, guest bedroom, family room, hallway, and master bedroom, replacing all of it with 24x48 matte finish porcelain tile. After patching and leveling the subfloor, we applied a RedGard anti-fracture membrane before setting the tile. Upstairs, we removed the carpet in three bedrooms and the hallway and installed engineered wood flooring, then re-stained the wrought iron staircase's wood handrailing and treads to match. Since the engineered wood no longer matched the original stair risers, we rebuilt the stairs with solid wood treads and used the same 24x48 tile from the floors on the risers for a seamless look. Midway through the project, the homeowner asked us to add a custom accent wall in the living room: a 12-foot-wide by 10-foot-tall wall covered in 24x48 polished porcelain tile, topped with a 12-foot-wide custom mantel stained to match the stairs and handrail, with 5 recessed lights built into the underside and the wall below painted white.
